Unfolding

for Flute and Piano

Unfolding is a five-movement work for flute and piano. The five movements (1.Creating, 2.Evolving, 3.Unraveling, 4.Balancing, and 5.Reflecting) represent a short journey of musical development for a short three note motive. This work was composed at the request of Katie Mess, a flutist, for her DMA recital at the University of Florida in March 2022.

Unfolding was premiered by Katie Mess, flute with Brian Hargrove, piano in March 2022 at the University of Florida, on Katie's DMA recital. Additional performances include April 2022 on Eric Heumann's PhD composition recital at the University of Florida and January 2023 at the Florida Flute Convention, both featuring Katie Mess, flute.
