Transient
for clarinet choir

The word "transient" has a few meanings. First, it is something temporary or something lasting only a short period of time. Second, it can also be momentary variations in a current or frequency. In this piece, both meanings are present. The piece lasts only about 6 minutes and most of the ideas are rather quick, short, and temporary. This is also exemplified by the rhythmic motives that constantly deviate from a regular feel, creating an irregular metric current to the piece.

Transient was premiered by the University of Florida Clarinet Ensemble in Spring 2019 under the direction of Mitchell Estrin.
