Toccata

for Full Orchestra

This work was originally composed as a duo piano piece in 2012 and later orchestrated later the same year. The duo piano version was written to showcase the virtuosity of the pianists and the orchestral version shares much of the same virtuosity. The themes of this work encompass a unique technique. Each of the main themes are built using all 12 pitches; however, none of them are treated in a serial thematic way. The first, a bouncy sixteenth note figure, quickly becomes an ostinato for the outer sections of the piece while the second two 12 tone ideas are more lyrical and provide the foundation of the inner section of the piece.

The duo piano version was premiered in November 2012 on a Rollins College Composition Recital.
