"A beautiful day for baseball..."

for unaccompanied violin and fixed media

As a tribute to Grandpa Fred (1937-2022), who was a former professional baseball player, a lifelong St. Louis resident, and my wife’s grandfather, I felt an electronic composition utilizing radio broadcasts from Cardinals’ World Series victories would be an appropriate way to honor his legacy. With “A beautiful day for baseball...” my goal was to excerpt some of the most interesting and exciting moments from the Cardinals’ World Series wins in 1942, 1944, 1964, 1967, and 1982 and pair them with a live solo violin. The violin represents a fan watching or listening to these moments, and reflecting and on the excitement of the games.

Premiered by violinist, Irvine Arditti during his virtual residency with the University of Florida in the summer of 2022.
